How to Fix a Blocked Toilet

A blocked toilet can be a nuisance, and the first thing to do is to flush it. You can try using a plunger to get rid of the blockage, or you can use a drain snake to get it out. Regardless of your method, remember that the water you pour down the drain must not be boiling. After pouring the water down the drain, you should wait a few minutes and then try flushing the toilet.

Using a plunger

If you have a blocked toilet, the best way to unclog it is to use a plunger. The best plungers for this purpose are the ones with a flange so you can push them down into the toilet bowl with gentle pressure. When you first push down, ensure you release all the air before pushing harder, as this can cause the dirty water to splash out on you.

Another way to unclog a toilet is to use a toilet auger made up of a claw that extends into the drain. As you push the auger down the drain, you will feel the claw break up the clogging material. When you feel the claw break the debris, pull it slowly out.

Using a drain snake

There are many methods for removing clogs and debris from drains. One of them involves using a drain snake. This device is made of a long, thin wire with a hook at one end. However, you should be aware of some risks when using a snake.

Before using a drain snake, you should prepare the area around the toilet. You should put plastic gloves on and keep a bucket handy. You should also ensure that the rubber sleeve is pulled down to the end of the coil, preventing the metal cable from scratching the porcelain and drain pipes. It is also helpful to prepare a bucket under the sink and have a rag or two ready to be used.

To use a drain snake, insert the snake into the drain opening. You should use the right snake to ensure that the snake will reach the drain. Make sure the snake is not too large or too small, and adjust the angle of entry. Next, add some hot water to the drain. You can also use vinegar or bleach solution to clean the drain. However, remember that a drain snake will not turn quickly if the drain is too clogged and that excessive force will make the snake useless.

Using a plastic bottle

A plastic bottle to fix clogged toilets is a simple yet effective way to clear clogs. Simply insert the bottle into the toilet outlet and squeeze it tight to send water down the pipe. While using a bottle to clean a blocked toilet, wear gloves and eye protection. You should wait 30 minutes to see whether the clog is gone.

You should be careful when using this method because it is pretty messy. Wear rubber gloves to protect your hands from the toilet water. First, you should empty the bowl of water. Next, you can fill the bottle with hot water. Once you have poured enough water into the bottle, squeeze it vigorously until the water shoots through the toilet bowl. This change in pressure should loosen any obstructions that may be inside the pipe.

Using baking soda

If you have a clogged toilet, try using vinegar and baking soda to clear the blockage. Baking soda is an acid, but unlike other acids, it doesn’t destroy plastic or metal. This means you can use the mixture to clean the entire toilet. Just make sure to flush the toilet several times to ensure that all the clogs are removed.

A half cup of baking soda is enough to clear minor clogs. However, if the blockage is more severe, you may need to add up to a cup of baking soda. Combine the baking soda with vinegar in equal parts. The mixture will fizz, but it will subside after a few minutes.

Using a drain auger

The first step in using a drain auger to fix a clogged toilet is to locate the trap. This is the section of the toilet drain that is directly below the bowl. The cable should extend past this section but not past the soil stack. Then, hold the housing of the drill in one hand and slowly turn it. It is important to use light force, as excessive force will damage the cable.

When using a drill, it is essential to wear rubber gloves and to prepare the drain. Next, put a large empty bucket next to the toilet. Using the drill, push it through the clog until it reaches the bottom of the toilet. You should turn the auger handle clockwise while pulling it out. Be careful not to force the drill through the toilet because this will damage the porcelain and pipe and may even break it completely.
