Poco M3 Camera Review

A good camera is a must for any smartphone, and the Poco M3 has a decent one to offer. While its low-light performance isn’t the best, it captures fine details and avoids lens flare if you use HDR mode.

The phone’s triple-camera setup includes a 48MP primary sensor, a 2MP macro lens, and a 2MP depth sensor for selfies. It also has a single-LED flash.

Camera Performance

The Poco M3 has a 48-megapixel primary camera that does a decent job of taking quality photos. Detail is adequate across a range of scenes, with colors also well-defined.

The images were also good in low light. The ‘Night’ mode is a valuable tool, but the Poco M3 didn’t deliver exceptionally high levels of saturation or dynamic range when we shot in these conditions.

There’s also a 2MP macro lens and a depth sensor for shooting portraits. It’s a shame the super-wide lens was sacrificed for this camera module, but it does work quite well when used in conjunction with the primary 48MP snapper.

The camera app on the Poco M3 is easy to use and features a good range of modes. It is, however, missing some of the more advanced features like panorama and HDR, which we would have liked to see on this phone.

Selfie Performance

The Poco M3 features a 48MP rear camera that is quite standard in this price range. Its primary sensor comprises a 2MP macro lens and a 2MP depth sensor.

The device’s rear design is a little different, with a piano black design element around the tri-lens camera, which is complemented by a large Poco logo in a Cool Blue colorway that is not too garish but does add some flavor to the look of the phone.

On the front is an 8MP selfie camera with a waterdrop notch that makes it possible to take bokeh shots, which are pretty good in terms of the detail and the colors they produce. However, a little over-smoothing of images is sometimes applied as well, which can be a bit annoying when you are looking for some real crispness.

The camera can also be used to shoot videos at 1080p at 30fps, but there is no 4K mode and no stabilisation. The video quality is average, though some ‘pop’ in color can be seen in most scenes.

Battery Performance

The Poco M3 is an entry-level smartphone that offers much value for the money. It has a 6.000 mAh battery, a Snapdragon 662 processor, and a 48-megapixel triple camera.

The image quality of the M3 is pretty good, especially if you’re taking photos in good light. However, low-light shots tend to lose detail and colour a bit, and the camera also takes longer to focus on objects.

Its camera app is easy to use, and there are a lot of exciting features that you can activate. The camera is also able to detect depth for better bokeh effects in portrait mode.

Its battery performance is another strength of the M3 as it lasts 1.5 days on a single charge. This makes it ideal for a day of social media browsing, video streaming, instant messaging, and a few calls.

Overall Performance

The Poco M3 is a solid performer. It delivers a good experience for everyday use including social media and internet browsing and is also capable of multitasking well.

It has a 1080 x 2340 pixels FHD+ LCD display with a punch-hole camera and a maximum peak brightness of 400 nits. It doesn’t offer deep blacks or sAMOLED-like colours but it’s more than good enough for daily video consumption.

This is an excellent display with great viewing angles and minimal colour bleeding or tinting issues. It’s not perfect, as it can have oversaturated colours in certain videos, but it gets the job done.

The primary camera on the Poco M3 Pro is a 48MP OmniVision OV48B PureCel Plus-S sensor with an f/1.8 aperture, an on-chip 4-cell color filter array, and hardware re-mosaic. It also has a 2MP depth-sensing unit on board for shooting portraits.
