Redmi 8 Pro Review

If you’re looking for a new smartphone under Rs 15k, you should check out the Redmi 8 Pro. It has some of the best features at this price point and offers excellent value.

It’s one of the first devices in this price range to get IP52 water and dust resistance certification, an excellent feature for a budget phone. It’s also got an impressive camera that’s a cut above some of the competition.

Camera

The Redmi 8 Pro is the first smartphone to sport a 64MP quad camera. It has a primary sensor with Samsung’s tetra cell technology, which can be paired with an 8MP ultra-wide and 2MP portrait shooter.

The camera app is a bit like the one found on other Xiaomi devices, with a central screen and bottom and top bars that carry toggles for flash, HDR, filters, AI, etc. The top bar also has a hamburger menu where you can choose the mode you want to use.

In standard mode, the phone takes 16MP images resulting from pixel binning on a 64MP primary sensor. The results are decent but not extraordinary.

The camera doesn’t do particularly well in low light, either. It suffers from a lack of details, especially in zoomed shots. It also shows stepping and has a limited dynamic range.

Performance

The Redmi 8 Pro offers excellent performance with its octa-core MediaTek Helio G90T chip. On the benchmarks, it scores much higher than its closest competitor, the Realme XT.

Antutu 8 recorded a single-core score of 284,957, which is 32.8 percent higher than the Realme XT. The phone’s multi-core score was also almost double its competitor’s at 1,552 vs. 1604.

Xiaomi is committed to selling budget phones with good performance and an honest price. Its latest offering is the Redmi 8 Pro, which sports a 6.53-inch display with a teardrop notch.

The camera is a significant draw for the device, as it boasts a 64MP primary camera and an 8MP ultra-wide, 2MP macro, and 2MP depth sensor at the rear. It also includes a 20MP selfie shooter.

Design

The Redmi 8 Pro is a good-looking phone with a great display and an in-hand feel. It has a 6.53-inch IPS display with Full HD+ resolution and HDR support.

It is also protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 5. The phone’s design is excellent and has a nice in-hand feel.

The curved sides on the front and back of the device make it comfortable to hold in hand. The rounded corners also help in reducing the chances of accidental scratches.

In terms of the camera, it has a primary shooter that can take 4K videos and 1080p at higher frame rates. The 20MP selfie shooter is also pretty good and can take photos in low-light conditions.

A MediaTek Helio G90T octa-core processor powers the Redmi 8 Pro. It also has an ARM Mali-G76 GPU and can support up to 6GB of RAM.

Price

If you’re looking for a good phone under Rs 20,000, the Redmi 8 Pro could be right up your alley. It offers a superior design, top-tier performance, and great value for money, all backed by a powerful chipset.

It’s built around the MediaTek Helio G90T octa-core chipset explicitly designed for gaming. It should offer much better performance than the Qualcomm snapdragon 710 and 730 in other devices in this price range, which should please those who enjoy playing games on their smartphones.

It also comes with MIUI 10 (upgradable to MIUI 11) and a 64-megapixel rear camera. It has dual 4G VoLTE support, too.
