Places to See in McLeodganj
If you plan a trip to Mcleodganj, there are several places to see and explore. In the past, Mcleodganj was home to the Tibetan spiritual master Dalai Lama, known for many other things, such as its many beautiful waterfalls. The town also boasts Namgyal Monastery, the largest monastery outside of Tibet. The town is also home to several ancient temples, including the Bhagsunag Temple, a famous religious site among Hindu and Gorkha people.
St. John’s Church
St. John’s Church is a must-see if you are looking for a Protestant church in the Himalayas. Built-in 1852, this church is a historic place of worship. It is located near Dharamshala, India, on the road to McLeod Ganj.
You can take a taxi or board a bus to visit the church. The main bus stand is near Depot Bazar, about six kilometres from the church. The church is accessible by road or bus; however, you must book your tickets well in advance.
McLeodganj is also home to the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association stadium. You can also catch a match at the stadium, which is open throughout the year. However, you should visit the church during the summer, as it is more peaceful during the hot summer months.
Bhagsunath Temple
One of the places to visit in McLeosdganj is the Bhagsunath Temple. This medieval shrine is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple is also known for its two pools, which are said to have healing properties. It is well worth the visit if you visit this temple during the fair held every year in September.

Namgyal Monastery

Tibetan handicrafts are sold in several shops in Mcleodganj, including the Tibetan Mini Market and Tibetan Handicrafts Centre. Several cafes offer a large selection of books. Tibetan handicrafts are also sold in the city’s Tibetan markets, including the Nowrojis, which dates back to 1860. These shops have everything from statues of Buddha to prayer flags and wheels.
There are also several cafes in Mcleodganj which offer delicious Tibetan fare. The Peace Cafe, near the market’s post office, offers a variety of wholesome dishes, including toasted Tibetan bread with marmalade and pancakes. Other options include the Tibetan Quality Bakery, which offers bread, carrot cakes, and brownies. If you’re hungry, you might even find some roadside momos, which are an excellent option for lunch or dinner.
